Phthalo Blue (Red Shade) is the often neglected sibling of phthalo blue (green shade). Unlike weaker, warm blues like Ultramarine, Phthalo Blue (Red Shade) has the tinting strength necessary to retain brilliant colour when mixed with titanium white, making it an ideal warm blue mixing compliment for the modern painter. Its tinting strength is strong enough in fact to readily build passage of strong colour, despite being completely transparent. Use as a glaze to bring out its rich violet leaning blue undertone.
While heavy body acrylic paints can sometimes be on the pricier side, I found this Phthalo Blue paint to be reasonably priced considering its exceptional performance. The high pigmentation means you only need a small amount to achieve stunning results, ultimately providing excellent value for money.
I've been using Tri-Art Polymer Medium Gloss for years to make the paints I use in my paintings. I find it perfect. It's always consistent, very durable when dry, and versatile. It's great.
